Two UM Wolves RFC players have been nominated for the Men’s Player of the Month Award for the month of December.

The Malta Rugby Championship this week announced that Philippe Ioffe and Cody Schmidt have been nominated for the award after their stellar performances during last month.

Both players featured strongly in the wins picked up by the men’s team over Overseas and Falcons, with a 74-3 scoreline and 26-0 scoreline respectively.

Ioffe was in imperious form in both games, as he scored a hat-trick of tries against Overseas together with two conversions – making it the highest scoring match of his career.

He then backed up that performance with another strong one in the crunch match against Falcons.  He assisted two tries – including one with a deft chip kick to open the scoring – and put in an excellent defensive effort, hitting 9 tackles, which was enough to earn him man of the match.

Schmidt meanwhile showed his class during both games, as he too picked up a hat-trick of tries against Overseas and assisted another two.  He added another assist in the match-up against Falcons.

As you would want from a scrum-half, his direction of the game was excellent, as he hit 121 passes out of 122 across both matches. Cody now has 11 tries in 14 UM Wolves RFC matches, five of which have come this season.
